Bread for the Road

He explained the Scriptures for seven miles before they recognized Him.

Books and letters for people still walking to Emmaus.

The road is hard and long. He gives bread for the next mile.

Two friends walked out of Jerusalem on the worst afternoon of their lives. A Stranger fell in beside them and asked what had happened. He explained the Scriptures to them the whole way, and they knew Him only when He broke the bread. Then they got up that same hour and walked the seven miles back in the dark, to tell the others.

Bread for the Road is written from that stretch. The books and the letters are for people carrying wounds and questions that have not closed, by a man still walking it. More about the road, and about me.

The letters

Once a month, one idea written to stand alone, in the time it takes to drink a cup of tea.

A third of the psalms are complaint. The angry prayers you have been swallowing are already in the Bible, given by God to be prayed, and there is a psalm that ends in the dark for the nights when you do too.

We ask one word to carry five different decisions. Pulled apart, they show that a person can forgive before God and still keep a locked door, a police report and her distance.

Walk with us

The letters go out once a month. They will not try to close what does not close. They will keep you company on the road, and point as honestly as I can to the One who walks it with you.

You do not have to arrive tonight. He is walking at your pace.

Once a month. No selling your address, no tricks to keep you. One link to leave, in every letter.
